Three survivors from last Thursday's helicopter crash at the West Cape Three Points in the Western Region have been discharged from hospital.
The crash already claimed the lives of three people. The remaining survivor is still believed to be in critical condition but is responding to treatment, according to The Director of Air Traffic Services of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). There is also one person still missing despite an on-going search being conducted.
Two of the crew members on board were from the local airline carrier while the other six were representatives of several contracting service companies - one of which was Aberdeen oil worker, Alastair McDonald. No Lukoil employees were onboard.
The incident occurred after the helicopter, operated by Ghana's Volta River Aviation, took off from the western port of Takoradi on its way to the Jack Ryan oil rig near the giant Jubilee field.
The cause of the accident is still unknown, while Lukoil Overseas (the company the helicopter was contracted to) said an investigation is underway.
