A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State – Comrade (Dr.) Niyi Osoba has condemned the alleged attack on Chief Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the Party and some other members of the PDP, in the vicinity of the Isabo Magistrate Court, Abeokuta - where the Gubernatorial Election Tribunal was sitting.
Osoba described the alleged attack as “not only barbaric, primitive, uncivilized, invitation to anarchy but utterly condemnable.”

He added that: “Let it be stated that the Election Tribunal looking into the matters involving other elective positions such as National and House of Assembly, had commenced preliminary sittings at the same venue for over a month now without any sort of molestation, attack on the opposition or members of the public. The question is, why then the unjustified, violent attacks on PDP folks on the day of the first sitting of the Gubernatorial Tribunal looking into the alleged massive rigging and disruption of the Gubernatorial Election in the last General Election? “This can be likened to the case of the witch that cried yesterday and the child died today, who does not know that, it was the witch who cried yesterday that killed the child.
“In the same vein, it is logical to think that Governor Dapo Abiodun cannot wash his hands clean in this assault unleashed on innocent Nigerians. It is against morality and oath of office for anyone to use taxpayers’ money to pay thugs to beat them up, maim them or attempt to kill them.
The most worrisome part of this charade was that the violent attack happened in the presence of the police officers and men deployed for special assignment at the Tribunal but they all stood akimbo and allowed lawlessness and criminality to thrive.
All these violent attacks, intimidation, vilification, rascality, thuggery and criminality in a sane society cannot be allowed to continue. It smacks off failure on the part of the State Governor and Commissioner of Police for these acts of terrorism and suppression of law and order to happen under their watch and nose. More so, that the dust of these nasty conducts of the thugs during the last Gubernatorial election is yet to settle.
“I wish to conclude that Ogun State is gradually becoming a banana republic and unconducive for human habitation. If these should continue, a state of emergency should be declared in Ogun State and Gov Dapo Abiodun should be removed to forestall anarchy.
If the touts and the thugs do not know and they are not capable of knowing that their stupid acts could not stop or prevent justice from being done by the Tribunal or the Court, then whoever sponsors them should know better that the gangsterism is only for a short period, it shall soon be over and all shall account for their deeds. Life, talk less of position, is ephemeral.”
Osoba pleaded “with the Inspector General of Police to as a matter of urgency, direct, supervise and ensure that all those who perpetrated the heinous crime are fished out, arrested and prosecuted accordingly as the law is not a respecter of anybody, no matter how lowly or highly placed.”
