Amosun leads Democracy Walk in Abeokuta
A Democracy Walk to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Nigeria's annulled June 12 1993 election was held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.
The Walk which took off from the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta was led by the Ogun State Governor - Senator Ibikunle Amosun and included government officials and members of the Abiola family.
Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola is widely believed to have won the June 12 election which was annulled by the then military Head of State - General Ibrahim Babangida.
The quest by Abiola to claim his mandate led to his incarceration by the military government for four years. He never regained his freedom - as he died during the incarceration after he drank a cup of tea which was believed to be poisoned.
Abiola hailed from Abeokuta.
