Today, the Nigerian people celebrate a new chapter in the history of sports as Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State opens the Akwa Ibom International Stadium - which has been nicknamed the Nest of Champions.

The stadium is modelled after the Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena in Germany, as it has 4-tier, covered, seating terrace, all-natural grass, high-tech floodlights and security cameras, 36 emergency exits, bullet proof VVIP and VIP - with a 30,000 capacity.
Most notable amongst special guests at the Inaugural ceremony is President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria and Brazilian football legend, Pele.
The stadium will be opened with a friendly match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Black Stars of Ghana on Friday, November 7 at 3pm.
