A leadership conference with the theme – Leading in Turbulent Times, targeting high-performing youth leaders in Nigeria and the rest of Africa holds on Friday 22 October 2021.
Tagged as the West African Youth Summit (WAYS), the unique 1-day seeks to align youth leaders with contemporary leadership challenges and empower them with practical skills vital for leading in these turbulent times.
The conference is hosted by the Young African Leaders Forum and the United States Embassy, and holds at American Corner Ikeja in Lagos.
According to organisers, “It is an open secret that the economy of Nigeria - and that of many other African nations - is experiencing stagnation or retarded progress. Some of the ugly effects of the COVID pandemic have also contributed to the recent closures and struggles of businesses and organisations. Our survey report states that many unemployed, under- employed and under-skilled youths continue to bemoan the recent social and economic turbulence.
“This event, therefore, is designed to strategically equip youths with practical management skills and applied knowledge necessary for leading in these turbulent times. Its main focus is how the sectors of Education, Technology and Entrepreneurship can be leveraged upon to ensure that inclusive development is achieved. On a wider scope, it will build and utilize the potentials of young people to foster ASPIRE in our continent. ASPIRE, here, connotes Africapitalism, Sustainability, Pan-Africanism, Integration, Reinvention and Excellence.”
The event will be structured around training sessions, caucuses, round tables (breakouts) and panel discussions to unite attendees in finding solutions to Africa’s economic development.
Training Sessions will provide the opportunity for youth to learn directly from experts; asking pertinent questions and noting important points.
Roundtable/Breakout Sessions will see youth participants come together to discuss selected issues affecting the region – and come up with solutions they would like to see implemented.
Panel Discussions would involve a group of people gathered to discuss a particular subject in front of the audience.
