Members of community group - Nigerians In Derby (NID) converged recently in the spirit of unity and to promote the country's culture. The gathering also commemorated Nigeria's recent 58th Independence anniversary.
The well-attended event was laced with surprise stage play performances by children, Awards presentation, colourful exhibition of traditional attire and foods.
Guests and members of the Nigerian community attended from far and wide including: Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Coventry, Birmingham and Manchester.

Guests in attendance included: The Right Worshipful, The Mayor of Derby - Councillor Mike Carr and The Mayoress of Derby - Mrs Cilla Carr; Representative of the Vice Chancellor of University of Derby - Mrs Julie Stone (Director of Online Learning); Spokesperson of the Yoruba Council of Elders (Europe) - Honorary Alderman Erelu Tunwase Lola Ayonrinde; Chairman of the Nigerian Leaders Forum - Mr Ade Arogundade; and Nigerian-born British Politicians - Cllr Leslie Ayoola and Cllr Patience Ifediora from Nottingham.
Also in attendance, were representatives of various religious organisations and other Diaspora African communities in Derby such as the Ghanaian, Zimbabwean, Senegalese, Gambian, South African and Cameroonian communities.
NID's outgoing President - Kazim Abdulkarim said the organisation continues to be "a reliable platform in promoting unity and showcasing our cultures."
