Britain has warned about the high threat of terror attacks against foreigners in South Africa, identifying upmarket shopping areas and malls in the commercial hub of Johannesburg and Legislative capital - Cape Town, as the main target areas. Cape Town is also widely regarded as the country's tourism capital.
"There is a high threat from terrorism. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners such as shopping areas in Johannesburg and Cape Town," the British government said in a statement on its travel advice website.
According to Reuters, the warning comes two days after a similar Advisory was issued by the United States Embassy based in South Africa's Administrative Capital - Pretoria.
South Africa's State Security Minister - David Mahlobo said the country was safe, emphasising that "we remain a strong and stable democratic country and there is no immediate danger posed by the alert".

He said the country's security services have engaged with the Americans on the concerns raised, and these engagements would continue.
Last month, a new message purporting to come from the spokesman of Islamic State, called on followers to launch attacks on the West during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
South Africa, which only has a small Muslim population, has no known militant groups operating in the country.
