Ghana Music Awards Europe receives mixed reviews

The Ghana Music Awards 2013 was a game of two halves to say the least. What the show lacked in punctuality and organisation, it certainly made up for its energy, acts and an all-round upbeat atmosphere.
The night began roughly around 1am (an entire 4 hours behind schedule) but once the show got started, it proved to be worth the wait. DJ Abrantee remained a likeable host as expected and lively performances from Afrobeat sensations Mr Silva, Fuse ODG and many more soon settled an initially irritable crowd. A guest appearance from Ghollywood darling Nana Ama McBrown was also a hit on the night, as was her impromptu performance of R2Bees hit 'Walahi'.
The majority of award winners were unfortunately AWOL which was a letdown, and although the VIP section remained packed, the standing area was noticeably sparse. But credit must be given where credit is due - I found myself enjoying the evening's resident Azonto dancers and the music was infallible. I'm sure this year's organisers will take this year's show on board and put on a substantially more successful show in 2014.
