Celebrating the Homowo festival
The Third annual celebration of Gadangme cultural and traditional festival organised by the Gadangme Associations in Italy - a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Italy, will be held in the City of Breganze – Vicenza / Italy on the 21st June, 2014.
The Homowo 'hooted at hunger' festival originated among the Ga people of Ghana in remembrance of the famine that once happened in their history in pre-colonial Ghana. Many ethnic groups in Ghana now celebrate the Homowo festival
The aim of this annual festival celebrations is to promote the Ghanaian culture and traditions to the people of Italy. The occasion will also be a platform to find means of helping the less privileged children in Ghana.
This year’s celebration has taken another dimension as the Association has planned to honor ex-President J.A . Kuffuor and Mrs. Naadu Mills former first Lady for the various roles that they have played in promoting education in Ghana.
According to Mr. Klu Christopher Sowah and Mr. Charles Lomotey organisers of the Council of Gadandangme Associations in Italy, it is hoped that honoring such high personalities, will motivate others to do their best in whatever role that they play in building our nation Ghana. They believe this annual activity will not be limited only to high personalities but all hard working people with an interest in promoting Ghana’s growth.
The Association will also use the occasion to thank Hon. Samuel Atukwei Quaye (MCE-Amasaman and Hon. Laryea Emmanuel Nii Okai (MP-Amasaman) for offering some acres of land to the Association for the construction of an education complex at Amasaman for the less privileged children in Ghana.
Before the festival, the Gadangme Association in Europe (GDEu) will hold an election to elect new leaders to steer its affairs. The election will be overseen by a three man electoral commission to ensure its transparency.
Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister will chair the occasion. The invited dignitaries include Mr. J.A. Kuffuor, Madam Naadu Mills, Hon. Laryea Emmanuel Nii Okai (MP-Amasaman), Hon. Samuel Atukwei Quaye (MCE-Amasaman), Hon. Addo Binney of AMA, Mr. Kwei Kumah, Mr. Hussein Mohammed all from the Ghana Embassy Rome; Mr. Garvine Amarvi –GPHA, Mr. Asiedu Daniel –GPHA, Chiefs and Elders: Nii Adjei Kraku II – Tema Mantse, Nii Kinka Dowuona iv-Osu Mantse, Nii Adote Otinto II – Sempe Mantse, Nii Adjei Sana II- Adjeiman Mantse, Nii Osabu Abbey IV- Prampram stool Father, Nuumo Gbelenfo – Osu Guaa Wulomo, Nii Ashaley Asuku (UK) Nii Ashai David (King David-Teshie) Nii Akai Nertey, Nii Amarh Olenu and Nii Yemo Yemofio all of Gadangme youth.
Also expected are Queen Mothers: Zanu Janet – Sempe Manye, Naa Tsotsoo Soyoo I – Amomole Dzaase Manye, Asafoanye Naa kai Kortu I - Tema New town, Asafoanye Naa Agbo – Tema New Town, Naa Ogbedei Esther (Teshie), Gifty Boi bi Boi – GPHA, Naa Dede Akrong (Obonu FM) Sharon – Metro TV.

The keynote speaker for the day is Dr Josia Ayerh.
The Gadangme Associations in Italy expressed its gratitude Hon. Nii Adzei Annan (Council of State member) for endorsing the 2014 Cultural and Traditional Festival celebration in Italy and his continued help to the Association.
