Acceptance Speech delivered by Senator Ibikunle Amosun CON, FCA, Governor of Ogun State, on April 12 2015 following his re-election at the April 11, 2015 Gubernatorial elections.
My dear good people of Ogun State, on Saturday, 11 April, 2015, you made me proud as the nation went to the polls to elect Governors and House of Assembly members.
First, you voted massively for me and my party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and thereby gave me a renewed mandate to continue as your governor for the next four years. Second, you performed your civic responsibility in the most peaceful, civilised and orderly manner. One can safely say that yesterday’s elections in our State were the best as no incidence of violence was recorded, except for a few incidents of malpractices in some areas.
You have once again demonstrated why the entire world has always referred to our State as the “Gateway” to Nigeria’s civilisation. At this point, my ultimate gratitude goes to Almighty God who made all these feats possible.
Ogun State Governor - Ibikunle Amosun
Senator Ibikunle Amosun
The renewed mandate you gave me is remarkable and I feel humbled by your appreciation of our contributions to the development of our dear State. The excellent showing of our party in all the 20 Local Government Areas of our State is an attestation of the love you have for us. From the results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the wide acceptance that my candidacy enjoys among our people was evidenced by the fact that there is no local government area that we did not score about 40 percent or even more which is above the constitutionally required 25 percent of the total votes cast in two-thirds of all the LGAs in the State.
It is for this reason that I want to reassure the good people of Ogun State that I will continue with our policy of non-discrimination against any person based on ethnicity, gender, religion or party affiliation. The policies, programmes and projects of our administration in the next four years shall continue to be for the benefit of all. Indeed, we shall pursue with more vigour, determination, honesty of purpose and courage, our five cardinal programmes as contained in our administration’s Mission to Rebuild Ogun State.
We shall build on the foundation we had earlier laid to make our State one of the most modern, and one with the highest standard of living in our country. The focus of our administration will continue to ensure better service delivery to our people. This, I believe is why you emphatically voted for continuity during the elections.
However, for us to continue to achieve development for our people we need all hands on deck. We therefore invite all the good people of Ogun State to continue to join this progressive team that will further solidify development, progress, security and peace in our State. Most especially, I want to reach out to all my co-contestants in the just concluded elections and extend my hand of fellowship.
They should know that we are all stakeholders in the Ogun project. We should therefore join hands to build our State. We are all winners. There are no losers. Our unity is our strength. We therefore have to continue to march forward together.
In conclusion, I want to extend my appreciation to all our people for their support, understanding, co-operation, devotion and prayers which have taken us this far as an administration.
I want to specially thank the good people of Ogun State for their resilience, determination, perseverance, and their peaceful conduct during the 2015 General Elections. We have all demonstrated that we are truly of Ogun Standard.
My gratitude also goes to all the leaders and members of our great party, the APC, all our royal fathers, religious leaders, market women and men, artisans, captains of industry, professionals, our public servants, CDAs, students, the civil society, security agencies, gentlemen of the press, as well as members of various groups and associations.
Finally, let me commend the effort of the umpire – INEC for a good job despite the obvious challenges.
May God bless you all.
Omo Ogun Ise Ya.
