Five officials of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel) have been quizzed by the Ogun State Police Command over their roles in the alleged attack on officials of the Ogun State Revenue Service. The tax officials had gone to Heritage Nursery School, owned by the church and located in its Ota headquarters, to demand six-year outstanding tax of the school.
The questioning of the suspects at the Eleweran police headquarters in Abeokuta was carried out on Monday.
Sources in the Ogun government also said that the General Overseer and Bishop of the Church, David Oyedepo, was troubled by the event and had contacted influential Nigerians to help address the messy situation.
The church is yet to react officially to the attack and a later one, Saturday, on journalists and building officials of Ogun by the church officials.
The journalists, Peter Falomo (reporter) and Lekan Egunjobi (cameraman) of the Ogun State Television had gone with Ogun building officials when the latter went to the church premises to complain about alleged illegal structures. Church officials reportedly descended on them, seized, and damaged their camera.
Though the identities of the arrested church officials could not be confirmed, police sources told PREMIUM TIMES that those arrested were identified in a video clip.
When contacted, the Ogun police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the interrogation of five officials and said investigations were ongoing.
