Bring Back our Girls protest in Abuja on Wednesday 30 April 2014
A protest has been staged in Abuja, Nigeria Federal Capital Territory over the fate of the over 200 abducted students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State.
The march to Nigeria's legislative arm - the National Assembly called for concrete action on the part of the Federal Government and the Security Agencies to free the girls.
At the National Assembly, the protesters were addressed by Senate President - David Mark; Speaker, House of Representatives - Hon. Aminu Tambuwal and his deputy - Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.
“We are also angry at the situation and we feel the pain. We are working with security agencies to ensure that the girls are found. We need to treat the Boko Haram issue like we are in a state of war because that is what it is. And they are causing pains to all Nigerians,” Mark said.
Protesters included former Minister of Education - Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, Mrs. Titi Atiku, Mrs. Maryam Uwais, Mrs. Maryam Sanusi, Mrs. Chammaine Pereira, Dr. Eleanor Nwadinobi, Mrs. Amina Omoti, Funmilayo Awomolo (SAN), Mrs. Saadatu Abdullahi Ibrahim, Mrs. Sharon Ikeazor, Mrs. Rakiya Sanusi, Mrs. Bintu el-Rufai, Mrs. Asia el-Rufai, Mrs. Kolo Kingibe, Mrs. Ireti Kingibe, Mrs. Saudatu Mahdi, Hajia Hadiza Bala Usman, Mrs. Hauwa Shekarau, Hajia Asmau Joda, Hajia Halitta Aliyu and Hajia Aisha Ismail. Also among the protesters were Femi Falana (SAN), Dr. Jibo Ibrahim, Mallam Bashir Ibrahim Yusuf and Dr. Otive Igbuzor.
