Thirteen people have been killed in a plane crash that occurred near the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, Nigeria. The crash occurred shortly after take-off from the Domestic terminal.
According to the Ministry of Aviation's spokesman - Joe Obi, there are some survivors from the Associated Airlines small chartered plane, which was flying from Lagos to Akure, the capital of Ondo State, with seven crew and 20 passengers.
"The plane couldn't lift properly so it just came down," Obi said. "Some persons are being rushed to hospital. A few dead bodies have been recovered, but there are survivors."
Yakubu Dati, Coordinating General Manager of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), confirmed that at least five passengers had been killed.
The Embraer 120 plane marked 5NBJY was carrying family members and the body of former Governor of Ondo State - Olusegun Agagu to his funeral. Also on board were officials of the Ondo State Government.
In June last year, 163 people died when a Dana Air plane crashed into a Lagos apartment block.
