Gambia Bird's proposed route network
Gambia’s new national airline – Gambia Bird Airlines Ltd hosted visitors to the World Travel Market London at a ‘Feel the Warmth’ reception recently. The reception was hosted in unison with the Gambia Tourism Board.
The event was attended by Gambia’s Minister of Tourism and Culture - Hon. Fatou Mass Jobe Njie.
Karsten Balke - Chief Commercial Officer for Gambia Bird Airlines, said: “We are thrilled with the reaction from tour operators and specialist travel organisations and we look forward to supporting the development of tourism and leisure facilities in the Gambia.”
Gambia Bird - West Africa’s new scheduled airline commenced operations last month, and has a vision to change the aviation market in the sub-continent by providing a safe, reliable and scheduled service across all major cities in the region focusing on air travel for business people, tourists, and domestic traffic. Scheduled flights currently operate from Banjul to Dakar, Conakry, Freetown, Monrovia, Accra, London-Gatwick and Barcelona. Gambia Bird also plans to expand their network with additional flights to Lagos.
The pristine Airbus A319-100, which is branded with the national colours of The Gambia, seats 138 passengers in Premium and Economy Class and offers a full range of in-flight hospitality.
Gambia Bird is supported by the Germania Group, a German airline with 26 years’ experience in the aviation industry throughout Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
Thomas Wazinski - Chief Executive Officer of Gambia Bird, speaking about flights from London noted that: “Flights from London-Gatwick to Banjul in The Gambia and to Freetown in Sierra Leone herald the start of our new airline and open a gateway to West Africa that brings reliable and exceptional air travel within the reach of every customer. Everyone has a stake in the future of Gambia Bird; the business people who need a punctual scheduled service, the tourists from Europe and other African countries who enjoy the special West African hospitality, the friends and families working in Europe who want to visit home. Over the next few weeks we will be ramping up our operations across the region from our hub in Banjul and the full network will go live towards the end of November 2012.”
