In the 2nd minute of added time, a through ball was played to Wome who raced into the Algerian box and slotted the ball past Mbolhi to double Togo’s lead. Algeria still persisted with their attacks but defence led by Dare Nimombe stood firm.
Algeria had most of the possession but in football these days, that is nothing without goals. Togo on the other hand defended resolutely and took their chances to send Algeria packing and have given themselves a good chance of reaching the quarter final for the first time in their history.
In the earlier game in the group, Ivory Coast thrashed Tunisia 3-0 and became the first team to reach the quarter final of this tournament.
