Football stars have sent tributes and messages of support to the iconic Formula One driver Michael Schumacher - who is in a critical condition in hospital after a skiing accident.
Schumacher, a seven-time world champion who retired from F1 last year for a second time, has been left fighting for his life after a skiing accident in the French Alps resort of Meribel on Sunday.
The 44 year old is currently in an induced coma having undergone surgery for severe head injuries.
Being a football fan, and having frequently appeared in charity football matches in recent years, footballing figures from his native Germany, Italy and the world at large, have taken to social media to express their best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Chelsea winger Andre Schurrle took to Twitter to express his concern, stating: "Get well soon, Michael Schumacher!!!! Gute Besserung, MichaelSchumacher!!! #bestrong"
Arsenal's Lukas Podolski also tweeted: "Bad news from Switzerland: please get well soon, Michael Schumacher. All the best for you, myfriend! #getwellsoon #Michael Schumacher."
Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng wrote: "Get well soon, Michael Schumacher! Keep fighting Michael."
