Eko Ile cover
EKO ILE which literally translates to “Lagos My Home”, is a love letter to the two cities and cultures that helped shaped Muyiwa's identity Lagos and London. Muyiwa says, “Eko Ile is without doubt my most personal and most honest record." EKO ILE: THE CONCERT will be a dynamic show that tells the story of Muyiwa’s journey from Lagos to London adding the favour of Black History Month 2016.
The EKO ILE audience can expect both a musical and visual spectacle with Muyiwa taking centre stage backed by a 10-piece band, choir, backing vocals and immersive set design exploring the story of a boy’s journey to manhood, from Nigeria to Great Britain.
EKO ILE, the 2015 album release on which the show is based, is a hybrid world music, Afro Beats and Gospel project, Muyiwa says, “From a music perspective it is our most complete album and hope shows a maturity in our song writing. I recorded much of the album in Ghana and Nigeria which gives the record a very different feel.”
The album features a wealth of music styles from across the African continent including highlife reminiscent of fellow countryman Fela Kuti with a refreshing take on traditional African praise, and African reggae with Muyiwa singing songs in his native Nigerian tongue of Yoruba and it’s peppered throughout with Swahili, Zulu, and Pidgin English.
“With this album and show on the 28th October, we want to showcase the wealth of African music to the world. Whether you are from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe or you've never had the African experience, come out to celebrate with us. Whichever country you are from you will be able to relate to this story.” says Muyiwa.
Tickets are available at EventBrite (click here now.) with doors opening at 6pm.
