Raw Material at Hyperlink
Artists from Raw Material Music & Media charity, representing some of London’s most original talent, will present live music, electronic sound programming and visual arts to crowds at Tate Modern Hyperlink Festival this weekend.
Based in Brixton, Raw Material helps young artists to develop their talents in music, media and performance art. Accomplished members Monster Playground, Celloman, FLOetic Lara, Tagz, Potent Whisper and Barka are all playing at Hyperlink this weekend.
Founded over 20 years ago by Tim Brown, Raw Material also helps young people gain opportunities to perform in international festivals and work with local musicians. Last year, several Raw Material artists featured at 2012 Festa2h in Senegal, and are returning again this June. More locally, their current UK tour, Raw Roadz Turning Tides project, is travelling to Southend, Ramsgate, Folkestone, Hastings, Brighton and Portsmouth.
Hyperlink is curated by Tate Collective for young people aged 15–25 and is the first in a series of national festivals being developed as part of Circuit, a new national youth network for the visual arts. It is being held in The Tanks, Tate Modern’s stunning new underground spaces for a 3-day festival of art, music and fashion for young people. The weekend will feature rapper Sway, Akala, Angel and an acoustic set by Sebastian Blake, plus spoken word from George the Poet. There will be workshops including fashion photography with Rankin, zine-making with It’s Nice That, fashion design with Cassette Playa, and Aberrant architecture.
