Henry Okah convicted
Observant warders at the Leeuwkop prison in Johannesburg, South Africa have foiled an escape attempt by Jaco Steyn, the infamous Sunday rapist; and Henry Okah, the mastermind of Nigeria's Independence Day 2010 bombing.
Steyn and Okah are part of a group of five who attempted to break out of the prison last month. Prisons wardens were said to have seen marks on the bars of a cell the two shared with five other prisoners.
Steyn is serving five life sentences after he was found guilty by the South Gauteng High Court sitting in Alberton on 33 out of 37 charges, including murder, culpable homicide, rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, and attempted kidnapping. He is also serving a 170-year sentence.
Okah is serving a 24-year sentence for terrorist activities in Nigeria.
He was reportedly the leader of a pack of five inmates attempting the jailbreak.
Correctional Services spokesperson - Zodwa Mtsweni said Steyn has since been moved to the Pretoria prison.
