Hon. Remmy Hassan on the Ogun Assembly crisis

Ogun State House of Assembly member - Hon. Remmy Hassan gives his version to Channels TV on the crisis in the legislative arm.

Crisis broke out when fourteen members of the State House of Assembly suspended the Speaker - Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekumbi with Hon. Remmy Hassan emerging as the Speaker Protem.

Hassan announced that Adekumbi, Deputy Speaker - Tola Banjo, Majority Leader - Isreal Jolaosho and Kunle Oluomo; remain suspended based on their cosy relationship with the State Governor - Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Days earlier, the House of Assembly session ended in chaos following alleged  attempts by Adekumbi to manipulate the process of the composition of members of the Tenders Board which met with stiff opposition from the majority of the law makers.

In another development, Speaker Adekumbi also announced the suspension of four of its members for acts bordering on un-parliamentary behaviour and gross disrespect to the legislative institution. Suspended were Hon. Job Olufemi Akintan of Egbado North 2 State Constituency, Hon. Remmy Hassan from Odogbolu State Constituency, Hon. Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo representing Ifo 2 State constituency and Hon. John Obafemi of Remo North State Constituency.

While Adekumbi said the House of Assembly Plenary session will continue, Hassan announced an adjournment of the sitting.

It took an intervention by Amosun to reconcile the warring factions with the Assembly now back under the leadership of Adekumbi.

The Ogun State House of Assembly in the months leading to the end of the Otunba Gbenga Daniel administration was unable to sit following the split of the Assembly into two warring factions that could be described as: Pro-Daniel and Anti-Daniel - each claiming supremacy and control of the legislative arm.
