In what some have jokingly described as a 'belated birthday present' - having attained his 65th birthday last Sunday, the Director General of Nigeria's Department of State Services (DSS) - Mr. Lawal Musa Daura, has been sacked by Acting President - Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

The action was taken in reaction to the blockade of Nigeria's National Assembly complex by operatives of the DSS earlier today.
A statement by the Presidency said the "Acting President - Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has directed the termination, with immediate effect, of the appointment of the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) - Mr. Lawal Musa Daura.

Osinbajo condemned the blockade which was carried out without the knowledge of the Presidency.

Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.
Daura who was born in Daura, Katsina State on August 5 1953, was appointed Director General of the DSS on July 2 2015. He began his career in the State Security Service (SSS) in 1982.
