The 27-year-old Argentine captain netted twice in the Catalans 2-0 Champions League win against Ajax.
Previously on 69, Messi's two goals saw him beat Real Madrid's 'commander' Cristiano Ronaldo - who already has 70 goals - to equal the prestigious record.
Whilst it took Raúl 142 Champions League appearances to net his 71 goals, Messi's outing against Ajax was only his 90th in the competition. And Cristiano Ronaldo, with 70 goals, has featured in the tournament 107 times.
