A head-on debate between Nigeria's two major political parties - All Progressives Congress (APC) and People Democratic Party (PDP) takes place in London on Friday 25 January 2019.
Organised by the Europe and America chapter of the Yoruba Council of Elders, a statement signed by its Coordinating Secretary - Elder Prince Dr Ademola Adekunle asserted that: "This is not an endorsement of the two-party system by the Yoruba Council of Elders Europe and America. Neither is it indicative of the limited choice available to people."

Elder Adekunle noted that having a debate involving over "70 Party flag bearers is not practical, and picking and choosing randomly will make Yoruba Council of Elders open to accusation of bias."
He explained that a recent Opinion Poll it conducted, "favoured a practical and unbiased solution which dictated that our debate should involve: the Party of the government of the day - in this case, the APC; and the Opposition Party - in this case, PDP."
Elder Adekunle added that "It should be emphasised that this approach is equally capable of opening various fronts of national debate, based on understandings of substance and style of proposed governance of these two Parties which may dictate that Nigerians look beyond both parties."
