Dame Betty Asafu-Adjaye, a Ghanaian who founded Mission Dine Club (MDC) charity over 30 years ago, organised a day out for patients of the Tudor Gardens Care Home who enjoyed Christmas lunch at L. Ron Hubbard’s Fitzroy House in central London.
Mission Dine
Mission Dine Club is a club for elderly, disabled and isolated people, providing food and companionship. Dame Betty set up the MDC after a chance encounter with an elderly lady - her GP, made her realise the need for companionship for the elderly, disabled and isolated. The club started in her London flat in 1985. Through her connection with Fitzroy House in Camden, residents of the Tudor Gardens Care Home got a chance to have a day out at the venue.

Fitzroy House is set in the heart of Fitzrovia, famed for its writers and artists. The house was built in 1791 shortly after development was undertaken of this area. Formerly inhabited by Playwright George Bernard Shaw, Fitzroy House now commemorates the life and work of writer and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Dianetics and Scientology who made it his London base in the 1950s. The building is reminiscent of the 1950s, complete with Adler typewriters, Grundig tape recorders, and Western Union Telefax.
