Michelle John
Michelle John’s Grammy Award winning song: “What Shall I Do” is one of the standout tracks from her album “God Is”.
This Gospel classic hits all the right notes and stirs the heart and soul in the way only Gospel music can!
According to Michelle, “God Is” is a selection of significant songs from her childhood. “Each song connects with a part of my journey.
These songs have survived the test of time, over many generations, all the way to my grandmother’s kitchen and my local Pentecostal Church.
“My life has been real and complicated but one of the most consistent things has been the songs.
“These songs remind me that God and I have history. Songs like the title track “God Is” which I heard and experienced as a 10 year old in my home church organisation. The choir sang and the soloist delivered the song in such a way that it hit my heart deeply and has never left me.
“I’m Running” is an adaptation of the chorus “I’m running for my life” which is one of the earliest choruses I learnt in my local Pentecostal Church.
“Trust and Obey” is an old hymn that I would hear my Grandmother sing often when she would be singing praises whilst preparing food in the kitchen.
Another one of my favourite songs “What Shall I do” was from one of the most inspirational American Traditional Gospel singers that I grew up listening to - Tramaine Hawkins. I would sing to her albums all day long and drive my neighbours crazy.”
Whether it was singing as a child in her local Gospel Choir or recording and touring with stars such as Eric Clapton, Annie Lennox, George Michael, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Mary J Blige, Tom Jones and Andrea Bocelli; the diversity of Michelle John’s musical background and the wide range of artists she has worked with have given her a great vision for her musical destiny.
