The Igbobi College Old Boys Association, Europe Chapter, ICOBA EUROPE, holds a fundraising dinner dance on November 16 2013 at the Hilton, Croydon - where it is hoping to raise £20,000 at the end of the night. The event is being held as part of an ambitious 5-year fundraising campaign to raise £100,000 to improve the overall quality of teaching in Igbobi College.
Between 2013 and 2018, ICOBA EUROPE intends to raise £20,000 annually. Its planned teacher training programme will include leadership & management training, and on-going professional development for 60 teachers each year - totalling 300 teachers over the 5-year period.
This programme will have a direct effect on improving the quality of teaching and raising the level of attainment in Igbobi College and indirectly in other schools in Lagos State.
According to ICOBA EUROPE, "all students are entitled to a curriculum that is appropriate and challenging if they are to have an equal opportunity to fulfil their learning potential, and compete successfully in the 21st century."
Additionally, ICOBA is of the view that it is vital that the teachers and other members of staff are well qualified and have access to regular high quality in-service training and support in terms of human and material resources.
According to the Chairman, ICOBA EUROPE, Dr Sola Odemuyiwa, “We want to create a learning environment and a culture fit for purpose for the 21st century and which will provide the future leaders that will play a role in Nigeria, Africa and the World.”
The teacher training programmes are being held at Igbobi College Yaba, Lagos which will be a Centre of Excellence for teacher training over the next five years. During this period teachers of other schools in Lagos State will also have the benefit of being trained at Igbobi College.
The ICOBA EUROPE Fundraising Dinner-Dance on Saturday 16 November is expected to be attended by Igbobi College Old Boys, friends and families in support of the initiative.
