She studied Social Sciences at South Bank University while working with the Nigeria High Commission in the early 1980s and resigned in 1990. She worked with Camden and Islington Councils at separate times for 22 years.
She was a School Governor for 8 years and is a member of various organisations including Tenant Association (former Housing Association Board Member for several years), Member of the Nigerian Catholic Community, Igbo Christian Mothers Community, Friends of Florence Hayes, President, Owerri Women Union of Great Britain & Ireland, still a trusted Treasurer for over 7 years with the OtuObi Nde Owerri Organisation of Great Britain & Ireland, member of the Imo State Union of Great Britain & Ireland, was a trusted Treasurer for Ihiagwa Progressive Association of Great Britain & Ireland for 4 years (her village community association, being one of the founders) and one of the major contributors to the renovation of one of the secondary schools in the village and other areas.
In 2010, she became a Chief in her village - “EZI ADA JERE MBA TURU UGO1 OF IHIAGWA”
For over 16 years, she has been very active in her local Labour Party activities and events including campaigning, knocking on doors, leafleting, elections, charity fund raising, etc.
Since becoming ward councillor 2010, she has gained numerous experiences on various scrutiny committees and community events, Labour Party Branch/BAME Meetings, Resident Forums, Regular Surgeries, Edmonton Partnership to mention just few. Councillor Patricia Ekechi was re-elected Deputy Whip & Women Officer for Women Councillors in Enfield, and has chaired various meetings and social events as CLP Black & Ethnic Minority Officer.
