Okutubo added: “When the GAB Awards began, it was born out of a conviction - a belief that Africans at home and abroad were achieving extraordinary things, yet were not being celebrated, acknowledged, or seen. Too often, the narratives surrounding our continent were narrow, negative, or incomplete. And so we set out to create a platform that would shine a light on the countless Africans making remarkable contributions to society, culture, business, science, governance, education, the arts, and community life. Twenty-seven years later, this vision has not only endured - it has flourished.”
The Mayor of the London Borough of Southwark – Councillor Sunny Lambe commended the organisers of the Award for sustaining the event over the last 27 years.
