Terrorists attacked the Westgate shopping mall in Kenya last September
Kenya's 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations have been marred with reports that a hand grenade was hurled at a vehicle carrying two British tourists in Mombasa. Fortunately, according to police, the grenade failed to explode.
Mombasa's police chief - Robert Kitur said: "The grenade was detonated safely by experts.
"We are investigating the incident and looking for the man who threw the grenade at the tourists and fled."
The tourists were believed to have been travelling from the popular Indian Ocean resort of Diani on the way to a wildlife safari at the Masai Mara national park.
This attack is coming barely three months after Islamist militants killed dozens of people in an assault on a Nairobi shopping mall.
