Protests greet Biya’s visit to France
French President François Hollande received his Cameroonian counterpart - Paul Biya at the Elysée Palace in Paris amid protests from Cameroonian nationals calling on Biya to relinquish power.
A Cameroonian Diaspora organisation - Collectif des Organisations Démocratiques et Patriotiques de la Diaspora Camerounaise (CODE) put its demand in an open letter addressed to the French leader. CODE insisted that 30 years in office is long enough.
CODE also accused Biya's government of bad governance, a flawed electoral system that locks out the opposition and rampant corruption.
Biya turns 80 on February 13 and has been in office since 1982.
