CCTV footage of T B Joshua's The Synagogue Guest House collapse
The death toll in last Friday's collapse of the guesthouse at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) has risen to at least 80.
Rescuers have helped 131 other people out of the rubble and still are looking for more survivors from the collapse at the church run by televangelist - Pastor Temitope B. Joshua in the Ikotun area of Lagos.
South African President Jacob Zuma said 67 South Africans were among the dead. "This is a particularly difficult time for South Africa. Not in the recent history of our country have we had this large number of our people die in one incident outside the country," he said, according to a statement released by the Presidency.
The Nigerian Emergency Management Agency, said although investigations have not commenced into the incident, that two stories were being added without fortifying the foundation of the initial structure, and that there was a "high probability" this is what led to the collapse.
The Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning said the Guest House had no Building Approval.
SCOAN released CCTV footage on Sunday claiming that there was a "strange" aircraft that flew dangerously-low over the building a few times before the collapse of the building.
This claim has been described by some viewers as a "farce", who assert that it is not unusual for aircraft to fly in the area. They also claim that it was not the same aircraft in the footage and that it was not that close to the building as the Church wanted viewers to believe.
