Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti is set to be dropped for the club's midweek clash against Elche, with Manchester United loanee, Javier Hernandez expected to take his place up front.
Benzema is struggling to replicate his form of last season, as he has scored just twice in 637 competitive minutes this season, while 'Chicharito' , who has never started a single game, has scored the same amount in just 50 minutes since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Hence, the Italian boss has hinted the Mexico international - Hernandez - could be rewarded for his excellent display with a start on Tuesday.
"If tomorrow Karim does not play, he will understand," Ancelotti told reporters on Monday. "Against Deportivo he played very well.
"We will change something tomorrow," he added evasively when asked if Hernandez would start ahead of Benzema on Tuesday.
"For me it was important that Chicharito scored. He struck twice and has confidence now. We felt comfortable with him in our team. I do not look to who scores and who doesn't score, I look how effective my overall attack is.
"Our attack is much better right now, we just need to improve our defensive play. I think we are better than last year."
Ancelotti's men will face Elche in a La Liga clash scheduled for Tuesday.
